Young 'Fred' our chocolate Labrador helping out around the yard

Seeing Eye Dogs Australia provides Australians who are blind or vision impaired with the opportunity to participate as active members of the community.
For a person who is blind, a Seeing Eye Dog is often an essential dog guide, enabling them to be independent and active within the community. Their dog can provide mobility and security that might otherwise be threatened by everyday obstacles.
Raised and trained to be a guide and friend, our dogs go through an extensive training process before they are qualified and matched with a loving companion. This process takes up to two years before graduation.
Seeing Eye Dogs Australia is the only national organisation providing Seeing Eye Dogs free of charge to people who are blind or vision impaired.
Each dog costs $30,000 to breed, raise and train and we do this with the generous support of our donors, corporate partners and volunteers. We receive no Government funding.
Among its many roles and services, our national centre in Victoria breeds and trains our own dogs. Pedigree Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers are mostly used.
Our puppies stay with our valued Volunteer Puppy Carers for 12 to 18 months before they commence 6 months of intensive schooling.
