Their dog can provide mobility and security that might otherwise be threatened by everyday obstacles History of SEDASeeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA) was founded by Mrs P M Gration in 1960 and was the first training school for dog guides in Victoria.
Mrs Gration believed the type of training existing at the time was not suitable to provide independent travel for people who are blind or vision impaired. The dogs had to be led onto trains, buses and trams. Mrs Gration felt this was not safe and developed a method of training that would involve the dog, under direction from the handler (person who blind ), leading the person through a series of obstacles as well as across roads. This included leading the handler on and off public transport, finding a seat and locating the entrance and exit points of a facility.
