Contribute to a top class partnership between a special Seeing Eye Dog guide and an Australian who is blind.

It takes two years and around $30,000 to train a Seeing Eye Dog.

  • $40 for a general veterinary examination
  • $120 for a year's supply of medicines
  • $120 for two sessions of intensive training
  • $170 for hip and elbow x-rays

Your sponsorship of a puppy will mean someone who is blind or has low vision will get the freedom and independence a working dog can provide.

The best part is you get to share the journey with your puppy through photos and letters telling you how he or she is growing up and all the things they're learning. This is lots of fun to read and share with family and friends. You'll also get our newsletter PAWS which tells you all about what is happening at Camp SEDA.

Be part of my adventure

Hi, I'm Leigh Garwood, the General Manager of Seeing Eye Dogs Australia. For more than 50 years, the kindness of people like you has helped train life-changing Seeing Eye Dogs. But right now, we’re facing a higher demand for our services than ever before. In fact, by the end of this decade, the number of Australians living with blindness and low vision will have doubled.

This is a huge worry for me as we do not receive any government funding and unless I can raise the funds to train more puppies now, we won't be able to provide a Seeing Eye Dog to everyone who will need one.

That's why I'm turning to you today. Your support will help ensure this doesn't happen, with a single donation or a monthly gift as a Puppy Sponsor.

By becoming a Puppy Sponsor, you will be part of your sponsored pup's adventure with regular letters and photos to update you on their journey to becoming a professional Seeing Eye Dog.

This morning, I visited the newest recruits to the Seeing Eye Dogs Australia training program. They are superb puppies who show wonderful promise. At only a couple of months old, it's hard to believe the transformation they are each about to go through - to one day change a person's life completely.

Unfortunately, without your support, I simply won't have the funding needed to train more puppies to keep up with the increasing demand for Seeing Eye Dogs.

One day, a person who is blind will have to entrust his or her safety entirely on their Seeing Eye Dog's training. It's absolutely critical that they don't make a mistake. That's why it will cost around $30,000 - and take up to two years - to train each one.

With no government funding for the training program, your support is essential to ensure we can continue matching a Seeing Eye Dog to every Australian who needs one.

Seeing Eye Dogs Australia Queensland Meet and Greet Day 2011

Crowd at QLD Meet & Greet

The annual SEDA Meet and Greet Day was held on Sunday 16 October and more than 500 sponsors and supporters came from all over Qld and NSW to meet their very own sponsor pup.

Guests enjoyed a delicious BBQ lunch, live entertainment and a demonstration from a working Seeing Eye Dog.

There was heaps to do for the kids, with a jumping castle, colouring in and 11 puppies to pat and cuddle.

Supporters were able to chat one on one with the wonderful puppy carer volunteers and staff and learn all about what it takes to become a Seeing Eye Dog.

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who made the day possible and our friends from Trilby Misso.
